How to not lose it....

Focus that is.

I'm in my 3rd week of training for my 2 races. A plan that I have promised to be faithful to. And I feel like I am miserably failing the past couple of days. Work had been ridiculous, I literally cried out of anger/frustration yesterday when I got home. Wednesday I was too tired to do my cross training in the morning, so I decided I'd do a Jillian DVD at home after work. BIG MISTAKE. Work was my workout. I have an extremely difficult caseload right now that all requires a lot of lifting & I was running around all day. It was muggy and 70+ and the heat was ON. Why?? Not sure, but it was miserable. I had to shower immediately when I got home. I was so exhausted I could barely get off my couch to get something to eat. Thursday I was supposed to get in my Tempo run, but I was still exhausted from the day before. skipped. Thought about doing after work, but was exhausted once again and could feel my back was out of alignment. Friday morning didn't happen to squeeze it in because drama with Kevin kept me up too late last night. I'm mad at myself. Probably because I don't want this to become a pattern.

What do you do to keep from skipping your workouts? Or what do you do at least to not beat yourself up when you do skip them?

Typically, I workout first thing... period. If I don't do it first thing, it gives me too much time to make excuses all day. But don't be hard on yourself when you miss. As long as your getting in several good days a week, a workout missed here and there won't hurt, and sleep might be more important.

Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on! Try to go easy on yourself during the tough weeks. A missed run here and there isn't the end of the world. Get some sleep, eat some nutritious food, drink lots of water, and you'll feel better next week. {hugs}

Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes a break is not a need its a MUST! If your too tired convince yourself to do just a 10 minute run, or 10 minute of a workout video. Most of the time once I start I'll finish to have a moderate length workout.

It sounds like you are crazy busy right now! Don't beat yourself up so much. Life happens, and we shouldn't feel guilty about skipping a workout. I know it's hard, but it sounds like what you need right now is to take some extra days off and just relax. Don't even look at your training plan. It will be o-kay. You will not lose your running fitness by missing a couple of workouts!

if you do it first thing then you're all done. There was a time when work left me really tired to stick with my training even if it was the next day. taking just a few days off running helped me get back on track and more energized =)
