Arctic Ease Giveaway

I first came across Arctic Ease reading Trying is for Little Girls. What a smart idea I thought!

An ice pack in an ace-wrap type fabric that you can wrap around body parts like knees, ankles, arms etc.  Its reusable, requires no freezer or fridge, which makes it perfect for race traveling!

Here's a quick Fact from Arctic Ease
The optimal temperature for effective cold therapy is above 59° F (15°C).*

When skin temperatures go below that, tissue damage such as frost nip and frost bite can occur - it's one of the biggest risks associated with traditional ice therapy. And it's why you have to put ice on, then take it off - over and over again. Arctic Ease eliminates this inconvenience, reduces the risk and discomfort associated with temperature extremes and makes it easier to get relief from pain and swelling so you can get back to doing what you want to do.

You can keep the wrap on for 4-6 hours, as long as the wrap will stay cold!
As a runner, and a physical therapist, I thought this would be a great way to help soothe our aches and pains without the trouble of tying an ice pack to your leg & laying on the couch for 20-30 min. Instead you can wrap and go. You can put it on and do housework, or still lay on the couch if you want.

The fabulous folks at Arctic Ease sent me over a roll to test out. What do you think I did, I brought it to New Orleans with me for RnR! After the race, my right knee was achy (we all remember how it had been acting up the months before). While I laid in my post race coma on the hotel bed, I wrapped my knee up with my Arctic Ease.

The tough part, was with the crease of my knee moving around, the bandage rolled up a little at the top & bottom, so it didn't cover as much surface area as I would have liked. It was cold, but not as cold as I usually like it, however the benefit was that I could keep it on for longer. I also loved that I could travel with it, and reuse it after rehydrating the wrap. So while it probably won't replace my ice pack at home, it will be tucked into my suitcase for all my traveling races.

REI= Awesome!

Yikes, what a weekend!

Friday night we spent a very long time waiting for a table at Cheesecake Factory. Good news, I discovered an REI! What an awesome store, I had to hold back from buying more than this...

My favorite sports bra, moving comfort Fiona (was 50% off)
A Swim cap
Nuun tablets (have yet to try these)
Stinger organic honey waffles and pomegranate passion chews (I've been dying to try these for a while!)

A big MISS on any workouts this weekend and even today. Ive been a lazy bum. I attempted to make my next training schedule by googling sprint tri training programs, but I feel like I'm beyond them. I need more run miles on the weekend to keep my mileage base up for races along the way like the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April. I decided I will just have to make my own training schedule, which makes me nervous, but it seems to be all I can do.

So far, I did my schedule for the week:
Monday: supposed to swim, but rest instead
Tuesday: Speedwork Run  & Abs
Wednesday: 20 min Swim & strength
Thursday: Bike-Run Brick 60 min & Abs
Friday: 20 min Swim & strength
Saturday: Bike Trainer 45 min
Sunday: 8 mile run

I spent a long time getting supplies tonight for our Tutu making this weekend. We missed our long run & tutu making this past weekend after a long saturday night at the Casino ($40 lost booo), and tons of rain. I am mad at myself for continuously getting off track with my food, I haven't stepped on a scale since Disney, a little nervous to. I really need to step it up. Any tips?

Disney Princess Part 3

We ended with me crossing the finish line and getting my fab medal!

After I crossed, I texted Barbie & A that I was done. I found Barbie on the sideline, but A wasn't with her, in fact Barbie hadn't heard from her and she should have finished the race about an hour before me. I grabbed a bag of ice from the med tent because I was so hot, then headed through the picture & food chutes to meet Barbie. We had originally told A that if we couldn't get in touch by cell phone, we'd meet up by the K tent.

I was already nervous, then that multiplied by 10 when she wasn't at the tent. A had hurt her foot at a race last fall, but I knew she would have struggled through and finished if that was the problem, but I never passed her & knew she was not still on the course. Barbie went to see if she had gotten her bag at bag check, she hadn't. Just as we were trying to convince some medics to get us some info, A called my cell.

She was plowing through the race, on her way to a 1:55 finish. It was humid, she took 2 cups of water at every stop, but very little powerade (1st possible downfall), and she didn't have any fuel on her and didn't take a Gu at the Gu stop. She remembered passing the 12 mile marker and not feeling well, but wanted to push through and finish. She remembered making the turn around inside epcot, and with about a 1/4 mile left she went down. The next thing she remembered was waking up being lifted onto a stretcher. 2 bags of IV fluids, a glucose tab, and a banana and an hour later and they released her.

After we got A back! We're glad to be done!

One thing that disappointed us, was that Disney EMTs did not even attempt to contact us. She had spelled our names to them, gave them our phone numbers, but no luck. Luckily she rallied, and after a shower, a few rides at Epcot, some laying by the pool, and a delicious dinner in France she was good to go.

The next day we spent at MGM and the pool, then hit up magic kingdom on tuesday before heading home. All in all, it was a fabulous trip we are tentatively planning again for 2013 or 14 for A to take her revenge on the race!
